With the new H1 edition 5 in place, many architects and builders have been trying to determine how our designs and products selections will be affected. VELUX has been working with BRANZ and MBIE to take the guess work out when it comes to VELUX skylights.
Despite the changes, if you’re using the calculation method, it’s business as usual when choosing VELUX skylights. We have BRANZ verified R-Values calculated for the horizontal pitch, meaning you shouldn’t notice a difference to what you were doing before Edition 5.
For those of you looking to use the schedule method, it’s not until May 2023 that you’ll see significant changes in required R-Values.
To keep things as simple as possible, VELUX has been working with BRANZ and can offer a CodeMark Certified alternative solution (Certificates linked below). The VELUX schedule method will be an option for homes meeting the modest criteria; depending on the size of the skylights used, often allowing the use of up to 3 skylights in a standard NZ home before requiring use of the calculation method.
Whether you use the calculation method or the VELUX schedule method, H1 doesn’t need to be difficult. If you want to learn more, please contact us and we will be happy to offer advice.
